MUSCAT : Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that it is coordinating with the relevant authorities in Pakistan to complete the necessary procedures for the repatriation of the body of renowned Omani mountaineer Nadhira bint Ahmed Al Harthy, who died after being caught in an avalanche on Broad Peak in northern Pakistan.
In a statement issued on Friday, the ministry said it was deeply saddened by the death of Al Harthy, describing the incident as a tragic loss for Oman. It added that close coordination is under way with the Pakistani authorities to facilitate the transfer of her body to the Sultanate as soon as the required formalities are completed.
Al Harthy, the first Omani woman to summit Mount Everest, was among an international climbing team attempting to scale the 8,051-metre Broad Peak in the Karakoram mountain range when an avalanche struck, claiming her life.

The ministry also paid tribute to her humanitarian and community contributions, noting her efforts in strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties between Oman and Nepal through her leadership of the Oman-Nepal Friendship Association. It said her work helped deepen friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended its sincere condolences to Al Harthy’s family, praying that Allah grant her mercy and give her loved ones patience and strength during this difficult time.
