MUSCAT : More than 1,000 members of the Indian community in Oman took part in a five-kilometre Viksit Bharat Solidarity Run organised by the Embassy of India in Muscat on Friday to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.
Held as part of Fit India Freedom Run 7.0, the October 2 event brought together children, young people, adults and senior citizens to promote fitness, community participation and the vision of a developed India by 2047.
The run began with Zumba and warm-up exercises. Participants received event T-shirts ahead of the run and commemorative medals at the finish.

Indian Ambassador Prashant Pise thanked participants, sponsors and volunteers for their support and welcomed the community’s enthusiastic turnout.
The event coincided with the conclusion of Seva Pakhwada, observed from September 17 to October 2 to encourage service and solidarity among Indian citizens and overseas Indian communities.
Carrying the Fit India message, “Fitness ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz”, which encourages half an hour of daily physical activity, the initiative urged participants to make exercise part of their everyday lives.
Held on Gandhi Jayanti, the run also highlighted Gandhi’s values of discipline, simplicity, physical well-being and service to society, linking them with the role of a healthy, active population in India’s development.
