Muscat – This new resolution updates Ministerial Resolution No. 235/2022, expanding the list of professions restricted to Omani nationals.
The revised list now includes a range of professions, from managerial roles to technical and specialized positions. Among the newly prohibited professions for non-Omanis are roles such as Systems Analyst, Engineer, and various positions within quality control, hotel management, and transportation.
The resolution, effective from the day following the date of its publication, also outlines phased implementation for certain professions:
- Professions like Systems Analyst and Information Systems Network Specialist will see the restrictions come into effect from January 1, 2025.
- Roles such as Computer Programmer and Computer Engineer will be restricted from January 1, 2026.
- Web Designer and Operations Analyst restrictions will apply from January 1, 2027.
The following professions shall be added to the appendix of professions prohibited from being practiced by non-Omani workers attached to the decision regulating the practice of certain professions referred to:
- Food and medical supplies (refrigerated) trailer and locomotive driver
- Water tanker and trailer driver
- Hotel Reception Manager
- Lifeguard
- Travel agent
- Room Service Supervisor
- Quality Control Manager
- Quality Officer
- Drilling fluid engineer
- Drilling Officer
- Electrician / General Maintenance
- Mechanical Technician / General Maintenance
- Drilling Measurement Engineer
- Quality Controller
- aircraft loading controller
- Marketing Specialist
- Ship lashing and fixing worker
- Labor Supervisor
- Loading and unloading supervisor
- Commercial Promoter (Sales Representative)
