MUSCAT : Data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) show that the figure rose from 181,241 in 2024, continuing a steady increase in elderly population.
Omani citizens accounted for approximately 73.5 percent of the total elderly population in 2025, which stood at 256,469 (including expatriates).
NCSI data shows that the number of Omani older persons has increased from 149,824 in 2021 to 154,405 in 2022, 166,464 in 2023 and 181,241 in 2024.
The number is projected to reach 385,395 by 2040, highlighting the expected growth in Oman’s older population over the coming years.
Ministry of Health institutions recorded 46,517 inpatient cases involving elderly Omanis in 2025, according to NCSI data.
Respiratory system diseases accounted for 14 percent of elderly Omani inpatient cases, while the overall number of elderly Omani inpatients declined by 3 percent compared with 2024.
A total of 2,596 deaths among elderly Omanis were recorded in Ministry of Health institutions in 2025, representing a 45 percent decline from the previous year.
Circulatory diseases were the leading recorded cause, accounting for 628 deaths, or 24.2 percent of the total. Respiratory diseases followed with 547 deaths (21.1 percent), while infectious and parasitic diseases accounted for 538 deaths (20.7 percent).
