MUSCAT : The ministry said spiny lobster traps are the only approved fishing method during the season, stressing that adherence to the regulations is essential to protect fish stocks and support the sustainability of the resource for future generations.
Spiny lobster is one of Oman’s most economically valuable fisheries, ranking second after abalone in terms of economic value. In 2025, Oman’s spiny lobster production reached about 645 tonnes, generating approximately RO 4.255 million, with an average price of around OMR 6.601 per kilogram.
Al Wusta Governorate recorded the highest production in 2025, with about 288.5 tonnes, accounting for 44.7 percent of Oman’s total spiny lobster production.
Dhofar followed with approximately 212.8 tonnes, or 33 percent of total production, while South Al Sharqiyah recorded about 135.7 tonnes, representing 21.1 percent. Production was also recorded in limited quantities in other governorates.
The market value of spiny lobster production reached approximately RO 1.757 million in Al Wusta, RO 1.705 million in Dhofar, and RO 775,000 in South Al Sharqiyah.
