MUSCAT — United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Friday welcomed the resumption of talks between Iran and the United States, expressing hope the discussions would help ease regional tensions and prevent a wider crisis, according to Omani state media.
In remarks carried by Oman TV News, Guterres thanked countries in the region for their efforts in making the talks possible and expressed appreciation to Oman for hosting the discussions.
The U.N. chief urged all sides to continue constructive and calm efforts aimed at reducing escalation and achieving peaceful settlement of disputes in line with the United Nations Charter.
