MUSCAT — Oman is reviewing its minimum wage policy, including the possibility of an increase or adjustment, His Excellency Prof. Mahad bin Said bin Ali Baawain, Minister of Labour, told the Shura Council during a council session on Thursday.
Baawain said the ministry has referred the minimum wage issue back for renewed consultation with production stakeholders and for a fresh review, taking into account economic conditions and labour-market realities.
“The issue of the minimum wage has been referred back to the ministry for further consultation with production partners and for reconsideration,” the minister said. “This includes examining the feasibility of raising the minimum wage in a way that achieves decent living standards, or adjusting the level of any increase in line with market mechanisms and prevailing economic conditions.”

He added that the Ministry of Labour has already completed a review of the proposal and resubmitted it, noting that approval is expected from the competent authorities in the coming period.
The minister stressed that any decision on wage adjustments would seek to balance workers’ welfare with economic sustainability and private-sector competitiveness, as part of broader labour-market reforms aimed at strengthening employment stability and productivity.
