Muscat: The Authority noted that water samples collected from all the surrounding aflaj and nearby monitoring wells were laboratory tested, and that it was proven that they were all free from any chemical contamination.

With reference to what was circulated on social media and press reports about chemical pollution in Mardam Hasas, in the Wilayat of Samail in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, the Authority stated the following:

“The Commission has completed all technical investigations, collection of inferences, field examination and laboratory analyses. A comprehensive report has been prepared and referred to legal entities.

“A number of specialized companies have been directed to conduct a field evaluation of the site, and they have recently submitted their financial and technical proposals. They are in the final analysis stage, and the work will be assigned to one of them in the near future.

“Water samples were collected from all the surrounding aflaj and nearby monitoring wells, and they were laboratory tested, and it was proven that they were all free from any chemical contamination until then.
“The Authority will continue its efforts, in coordination with the competent authorities, to protect the environment and preserve its natural resources, and will take all legal measures against anyone who expends hazardous pollutants or disposes them in the Omani environment.”
