Muscat – The International Letter-Writing competition, held to mark World Post Day on 9^th October, awarded Nisal’s entry with the second place in the youth category, titled ‘Climate Crisis.’ The competition is organised annually by UPU to improve education through the art of writing letters.

13-year old Nisal won the first place in the competition held at the national level in June and went on to win the second at the international level. The theme this year focused on the general readiness to take action on the climate disaster, to save the planet and the livelihoods of the world’s population today. An international jury complied by the International Bureau, judged the letters and selected the overall winners and candidates that merit a special mention.  

Since 1971, the UPU has encouraged young writers, aged 9-15, to write letters on a given theme to win exciting prizes. The competition is an excellent way of making young people aware of the important role postal services play in our societies. It develops their skills in composition and their ability to express thoughts clearly. It also fosters enjoyment of letter writing and helps strengthen the bonds of international friendship.
