MUSCAT : The strategic road project, being implemented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, is expected to significantly improve connectivity across Musandam, reduce travel times and support economic, tourism and investment activity in the governorate.
Engineer Hamdan bin Amer Al-Issai, Head of the Design Follow-up, Research and Development Department at the Ministry and Director of the Sultan Faisal bin Turki Road Project, said the development would represent a major addition to Musandam’s road network.
He said the project would improve links between different areas of the governorate, facilitate movement, enhance access to villages and population centres, and create new opportunities for commercial and tourism development.

The road stretches for a total of 72 kilometres and has been divided into three sections. The first runs for 20 kilometres from Khasab to Lima, while the second covers eight kilometres within Lima. The third and longest section extends for 44 kilometres between Lima and Dibba.
The project also includes around 198 concrete structures for rainwater drainage.
The road will feature two lanes, with one lane in each direction. Each lane will be approximately 3.6 metres wide, supported by 1.5-metre side shoulders and prepared earth shoulders designed to allow future expansion depending on traffic requirements.
According to Al-Issai, the road has been designed taking into account Musandam’s mountainous terrain and climatic conditions, with a focus on improving safety and traffic efficiency for different types of vehicles.
Once completed, the project is expected to dramatically cut journey times across the governorate. Travel between Khasab and Dibba is projected to take around 55 minutes, while the journey between Lima and Khasab is expected to take about 20 minutes, compared with approximately two and a half hours previously.
