MUSCAT: A specialised medical team from the National Cancer Center at the Royal Hospital has succeeded in treating a patient with a tumour in the heart muscle. This procedure was performed for the first time in the Sultanate of Oman.
The patient underwent a local excision of the tumour with the presence of tumour remnants, followed by careful planning and intensive radiotherapy, under continuous follow-up and monitoring.
Dr. Thuraya bint Nasser Al-Hajaria, Consultant and Head of the Radiotherapy Department at the National Cancer Center at the Royal Hospital, said, “The danger of performing such operations lies in terms of the therapeutic and radiological procedure and the scarcity of such cases globally.
