Construction of new hospital in Oman progresses steadily

All departments and specialties in the current Sultan Qaboos Hospital building will be transferred to the new hospital building.

MUSCAT: Over 15 per cent of construction is completed of the new Sultan Qaboos Hospital project in the Governorate of Dhofar — one of the most vital projects for the health sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

Dr. Khalid bin Muhammad Al-Mashikhi, Director-General of the General Directorate of Health Services in the Governorate of Dhofar, has confirmed in a statement that the new Sultan Qaboos Hospital project consists of seven floors, and more than 700 beds will be allocated to it for admission. He indicated that the new hospital will be equipped with the latest devices and equipment. It is hoped that its construction will be completed by the end of 2024, according to the plan.

Al-Masikhi added, “The main building of the hospital will consist of an accident and emergency unit, a medical imaging unit, a rehabilitation unit, a chemotherapy unit, in addition to a dialysis unit, burns, orthotics, day clinics, and units for paediatric care – intensive care for adults – care. Stroke – Intermediate care in addition to operating rooms, delivery rooms, private ward and VIP suite.

With regard to the inpatient departments, the Director-General of the General Directorate of Health Services in the Governorate of Dhofar explained that the new hospital will have 4 surgical wards, 4 paediatric wards, 4 internal medicine wards, and 4 gynaecology and obstetrics suites, and will include an annexe building consisting of a lecture hall that can accommodate 250 persons, the health education department, as well as the departments of equipment, medical devices, warehouses, pathology laboratories, and the central sterilisation unit.

The Director-General of the General Directorate of Health Services in the Governorate of Dhofar has confirmed that all departments and specialities in the current building will be transferred to the new hospital and that there is a plan to take full and partial use in the future of the departments and facilities in the current building as needed.
