MUSCAT : In a bid to curb the Omicron coronavirus variant in the country, the Supreme Committee has tightened controls including banning gatherings and events including marriages declaration ceremonies in mosques, halls and other public setting.
The committee also banned holding events in public majlises. “The concerned authorities will take all legal measures against violators,” the statement added.
The decision comes after 12 suspected cases of Omicron variant was confirmed by the Minister of Health during an interview with Oman TV.

However, the ban does not include holding events in designated halls with a 50% capacity. “They must apply all precautionary measures including having two-dose vaccination, wearing face masks, maintaining physical distance,” the statement added.
Earlier on Monday, the Ministry of Health registered two confirmed cases of COVID-19 variant Omicron. According to MOH, two citizens who have returned from abroad registered the cases.
“Their condition is stable and are subject to epidemiological investigation,” MOH added.
