MUSCAT — Oman opened its fourth Dates and Honey Exhibition on Monday, bringing together about 100 businesses as it seeks to improve the competitiveness of local agricultural products and expand their access to international markets.
The exhibition, running until October 23 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, is organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in partnership with Oman Agriculture Development Company.
His Excellency Dr. Said bin Mohammed Al Saqri, economic adviser at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, presided over the opening.

Al Saqri said trade exhibitions helped connect producers with importers, support home-based businesses and beekeepers, and create employment and business opportunities for Omanis.
“Exhibitions support innovation and add value to agricultural products, strengthening their contribution to the economy,” he said in an interview.
He added that such events could help producers expand beyond Oman and regional markets to reach international buyers, while supporting economic and rural development and food security.
Participants include small and medium-sized enterprises, entrepreneurs, producers, processors, exporters and importers of dates, honey and related products.
Yahya bin Khalfan Al Hadidi, director of the ministry’s marketing department, told Oman News Agency that this year’s exhibition placed greater emphasis on branding, packaging and quality requirements, including laboratory testing of honey and certification of product and packaging quality.
The aim was to help businesses move from traditional presentation towards more innovative branding and packaging suited to overseas markets, he said. Organisers had also focused on producers and marketers capable of entering markets and competing.
The exhibition features technologies used in the production, processing and packaging of dates and honey, alongside opportunities for businesses to exchange expertise and explore trade and investment partnerships.
It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
