MUSCAT : A tropical depression over the southwestern Arabian Sea is expected to move towards the Horn of Africa, with no direct impact on Oman forecast over the next five days, the Civil Aviation Authority said on Sunday.

The system was centred at latitude 7.7 degrees north and longitude 59.0 degrees east, with wind speeds around its centre estimated at 17–27 knots (31–50 km/h), according to a bulletin issued at 4:30 p.m.

Analysis by the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Center and the latest satellite images indicated that the depression was generally expected to continue moving west to northwest.

Although no direct impact on Oman is expected, medium and high clouds could spread over parts of Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates, bringing isolated rainfall gradually from Wednesday, October 21.

Meteorological specialists are monitoring the system, the authority said, urging the public to follow official weather bulletins and updates.
