Oman’s Consumer Protection outlines key reasons for banning goods

The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has outlined the main reasons why goods may be banned from being sold or traded in Oman.

MUSCAT : According to the authority, products may be prohibited if they violate approved specifications and standards or are found to have defects that affect their safety or quality. Goods that pose a risk to human health are also subject to a ban.

The CPA further stated that commodities that contravene Islamic customs, traditions, and values are prohibited from being marketed or traded in the Sultanate.

In addition, the authority stressed that it is illegal to trade any commodity or provide any service that fails to meet all applicable health and safety requirements or does not obtain the necessary licences and approvals from the relevant authorities, as stipulated under the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations.
