MUSCAT: A promotional campaign organiser was ordered to pay RO 3,600 to a consumer after a car he won in a contest was replaced with a wall clock, according to a court ruling highlighted by Oman’s Public Prosecution.

The case was featured in Al-Mujtama’a wa Al-Qanun (Society and Law), a publication issued by the Public Prosecution that highlights legal cases and judicial rulings, including those involving promotional campaigns and sales incentives.

According to the case, the consumer participated in a promotional campaign and was publicly announced as the winner of a car based on the number of his coupon.

But when he approached the organisers to claim the prize, he was handed a wall clock instead of the vehicle.

The organisers argued that the car was intended for the holder of another coupon number that was announced later. The position, however, contradicted the earlier announcement identifying the claimant’s coupon as the winning entry.

The dispute eventually reached the Muscat Court of Appeal’s Commercial Circuit.

In its ruling issued on November 10, 2003, the court ordered the organiser to pay the claimant RO 3,600, representing the value of the car he had won through the promotional campaign.
