MUSCAT: Muscat Governorate has launched the “AI Explorers” initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, as part of efforts to familiarise young people with emerging technologies and prepare them for the demands of a rapidly evolving digital future.

Hosted by Muscat University from July 5 to 9, the programme brings together 20 children aged between 10 and 15 for an interactive educational experience designed to simplify artificial intelligence concepts and demonstrate their practical applications in everyday life.

The initiative reflects Muscat Governorate’s commitment to nurturing innovation among younger generations by providing a safe and engaging environment where participants can explore AI technologies, develop new skills, and gain a deeper understanding of digital transformation.

Tou’a Abdullah Al Dawood, Head of the Development and Communications Department at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said the programme is built around the idea of introducing children to AI through enjoyable and interactive learning experiences rather than complex technical instruction.

She explained that the objective is not only to teach children how to use modern technologies but also to help them understand the potential of AI and apply it responsibly and creatively to solve problems. According to Al Dawood, the 10-15 age group represents a crucial stage for developing curiosity, exploration, and critical thinking, making early exposure to emerging technologies an important investment in the future.

Beyond technical knowledge, the programme focuses on developing a range of future-ready competencies, including critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. Participants are encouraged to analyse information independently and not rely solely on AI-generated outputs, while also learning the importance of responsible technology use.

The initiative adopts a practical learning approach through games, interactive activities, and experiments that allow children to explore how AI applications function in a simplified and engaging manner. The programme has been designed to accommodate children regardless of their previous technical experience, starting with foundational concepts before progressing to age-appropriate applications.

As part of the programme, participants will also take part in an educational journey highlighting the everyday uses of AI, while gaining awareness of cybersecurity, digital ethics, collaboration, and innovation. The initiative aims to inspire children to learn, discover, and create while preparing them to engage confidently with future technologies.

Al Dawood said the initiative aligns with Oman’s vision of building a knowledge-based and innovation-driven digital economy, emphasising that investing in children today means investing in the nation’s future. She noted that empowering young people with the skills needed to navigate and shape tomorrow’s technologies will contribute to the development of innovative solutions that benefit both society and the economy.
