MUSCAT : During the same period, the company also moved over 64,000 vehicles and handled cargo shipments totalling more than 27,000 tons.
The company operates a maritime fleet consisting of five passenger and vehicle ferries, in addition to a dedicated cargo and landing vessel. The fleet includes the Shannah ferry, with a capacity of 15 passengers and 38 vehicles; the Jewel of Masirah, accommodating 154 passengers and 38 vehicles; the Halaniyat, carrying 106 passengers and 12 vehicles; the Hormuz, with a capacity of 106 passengers and 12 vehicles; and the Suqrah, also accommodating 106 passengers and 12 vehicles. The cargo and landing vessel Halaniyat can carry 12 passengers, 30 vehicles, and up to 48 containers.


The company’s maritime transport services play a key role in supporting Oman’s national economy by strengthening connectivity between governorates and islands, facilitating the movement of people and goods, and boosting tourism and commercial activity. It also contributes to job creation, with an Omanisation rate reaching 97 percent.
In addition, the National Ferries Company offers a range of modern services for passengers, vehicles, and cargo, including regular high-speed scheduled trips, commercial shipping support, and logistics services for development projects across the Sultanate of Oman. The company also operates leisure sea trips to key tourist destinations known for their natural marine attractions.
Operational activity increases during peak travel seasons, particularly the Musandam winter season (November to February), the summer holiday period, and the turtle nesting and camping season on Masirah Island (April to October), when demand for maritime transport rises significantly.
As part of its ongoing development plans, the company is implementing several projects aimed at enhancing service efficiency, including upgrading and rehabilitating existing ferries and constructing a new passenger and vehicle ferry at Asyad Dry Dock. These initiatives aim to improve service quality, expand capacity, and enhance the overall passenger experience across Oman’s maritime transport network.
