MANILA : Oman has reaffirmed its longstanding position that vital international waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz, must remain open and accessible to maritime navigation, stressing that international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) are fundamental to safeguarding maritime security and freedom of navigation.

The statement was made during the ministerial meeting held in Manila to mark the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

Oman said its position reflects its continued commitment to ensuring that international shipping lanes remain open, with particular emphasis on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime corridors for global trade and energy supplies.

The Sultanate underscored that compliance with international law and UNCLOS remains essential for maintaining maritime security, protecting freedom of navigation and supporting stability in international waters.
