MUSCAT : The investments are expected to support the transfer of knowledge and emerging technologies to the Sultanate of Oman, create opportunities for future partnerships and contribute to the country’s ambition of building a sustainable, knowledge-based economy.

Through Cambridge Innovation Capital, OIA is connected to an advanced ecosystem focused on transforming scientific research originating from the University of Cambridge into commercially viable companies.

Its portfolio includes CMR Surgical, which develops robotic systems aimed at improving surgical precision and reducing the need for invasive procedures, and Pragmatic Semiconductor, a company specialising in flexible, low-cost semiconductor chips for Internet of Things applications.

Other companies include Immotrin, which develops antibody-based treatments designed to modify and activate immune responses, particularly for conditions related to cardiomyopathy, and Riverlane, which creates quantum error-correction technologies and software to support the development of next-generation quantum computers.

OIA’s investment in Oxford Science Enterprises also connects the Authority with one of the world’s leading platforms for establishing and supporting companies emerging from the University of Oxford.

The Oxford portfolio includes Quantum Motion Technologies, which develops scalable quantum-computing processors, and Oxford Quantum Circuits, which is building quantum computers and related technologies for future computing applications.

It also includes Refeyn, which develops advanced instruments for analysing biomolecules and measuring their properties with high precision, supporting research into medicines and gene therapies, as well as Osler Diagnostics, which is developing rapid and portable diagnostic devices for use in healthcare settings.

Ibrahim bin Saeed Al Isri, Head of Private Markets Investments at OIA, said the Authority’s growing presence in the global innovation ecosystem reflects its belief that advanced technologies have become major drivers of economic, social and scientific development.

He said investing in companies developing innovative solutions in healthcare, science-based technologies, quantum computing and other future-focused sectors enables OIA to keep pace with global innovation and explore opportunities to transfer knowledge and technology to Oman.

The investments also promote the exchange of expertise, support Oman’s objectives in the technology sector and provide opportunities to generate sustainable financial returns from rapidly expanding industries, he added.

The Cambridge and Oxford investments form part of OIA’s wider efforts to support innovation both internationally and within the Sultanate.

They are held under the Authority’s Generational Portfolio, which manages foreign investments across more than 50 countries and seeks to achieve sustainable long-term returns while diversifying risks across global markets.
