MUSCAT : The ruling followed a complaint filed with the Consumer Protection Authority’s (CPA) department in Al Buraimi by a consumer who stated that his vehicle continued to suffer repeated faults after undergoing maintenance and parts replacement at a workshop.
According to the complaint, the vehicle experienced recurring malfunctions after being returned to its owner, despite several attempts by the workshop to address the problem. The consumer also reported that the workshop failed to provide an invoice documenting the services rendered.
Investigations conducted by the CPA found that the supplier had failed to provide the service in a proper manner consistent with agreed standards and had violated the consumer’s right to receive an invoice confirming receipt of the service.
The case was subsequently referred to the competent judicial authorities.
The court convicted the defendants of failing to provide the service properly and imposed a fine of RO1,500 on each party. It also found them guilty of violating the consumer’s right to obtain an invoice and imposed an additional fine of RO200.
The court ordered the closure of the commercial establishment, merged the penalties and enforced the most severe punishment. It also referred the civil claim to the competent judicial division.
