MUSCAT : India has appointed veteran diplomat Prashant Pise as its next Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, according to an official announcement by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Pise, a 1995-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service, is currently serving as Additional Secretary in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, where he oversees matters related to emigration policy and welfare.
He is expected to take up his new diplomatic assignment in Muscat shortly, succeeding India’s current envoy as New Delhi and Muscat continue to deepen strategic cooperation across trade, investment, energy security, maritime partnerships and diaspora engagement.

During a diplomatic career spanning nearly three decades, Pise has held several key overseas postings, particularly across the Middle East and North Africa region. He previously served as India’s Ambassador to Iraq and has also undertaken diplomatic assignments in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia.
Beyond the Arab world, Pise has served in Indian missions in Japan, Mauritius and the United Kingdom, bringing extensive experience in bilateral diplomacy, political affairs and consular engagement.
His appointment comes amid steadily expanding India-Oman relations, with both countries strengthening collaboration in sectors including logistics, renewable energy, defence cooperation, ports, food security and technology. Oman also remains home to one of the largest Indian expatriate communities in the Gulf region, playing a key role in economic and cultural ties between the two nations.
