MUSCAT – Oman has announced the establishment of a Special Artificial Intelligence Zone in Muscat, aiming to position the sultanate as a regional hub for advanced technologies and innovation, following the issuance of Royal Decree No. 50/2026.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in collaboration with the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, is designed to attract global and regional investments in artificial intelligence and related sectors.
Spanning an area of 105,000 square metres, the zone will offer a range of incentives and exemptions aimed at drawing international companies, startups and talent, while supporting localisation and accelerating growth within Oman’s technology ecosystem.

Authorities said the zone will focus on key strategic sectors including Internet of Things and smart solutions, advanced artificial intelligence applications, cybersecurity and data protection, quantum and high-performance computing, semiconductor and chip design, as well as space technologies and AI-driven data analytics.
The project is also expected to provide integrated infrastructure tailored to the needs of AI-driven enterprises. This includes flexible office spaces, co-working environments, specialised incubators and accelerators, and centres of excellence equipped with advanced laboratories in artificial intelligence, robotics and automation.
In addition, the zone will feature technical training and education facilities developed in partnership with global technology firms, alongside integrated service hubs offering logistics support and community spaces.
Officials said the initiative would also enhance access to investor networks and strengthen connectivity within the global AI ecosystem, reinforcing Oman’s ambitions to diversify its economy and build a knowledge-based future aligned with its long-term development strategies.
