MUSCAT : Data from the Authority shows that the goods and services sector recorded the highest number of complaints and reports between January 1, 2025 and February 16, 2026, with 16,812 complaints and 5,256 reports. This was followed by the vehicles and vehicle repair workshops sector with 6,845 complaints and 1,217 reports, and the electrical and electronic devices sector with 4,023 complaints and 629 reports.

The campaign, led by the General Directorate of Consumer Services and Market Surveillance, began on April 26 and will run until the end of July 2026. It focuses on increasing compliance with regulations, addressing violations, and enhancing transparency across key consumer-facing sectors.
Authorities said the targeted sectors were identified through analysis of data from the Complaints and Reports Registration System (Maidan/Himma), with priority given to industries that directly impact consumers’ daily lives.
Inspection activities will cover a wide range of businesses, including vehicle repair workshops, aluminium and blacksmithing workshops, building materials outlets, furniture and kitchen manufacturing, electrical and electronic appliance retailers, and consumer goods outlets dealing in food, cosmetics, accessories, and stationery.
The campaign also extends to service providers such as salons, barbershops, cafés and restaurants, laundries, ironing services, and tailoring shops.
Dr Ahmed Al Busaidi, Director General of Consumer Services and Market Surveillance, said the initiative is driven by a data-based approach to regulation.
“The Authority treats data as a strategic tool to direct its regulatory efforts towards sectors with the greatest impact on consumers,” he said, adding that the campaign aims to improve compliance, reduce malpractice, and boost consumer confidence in the market.
He noted that the efforts align with Oman Vision 2040, particularly in enhancing economic competitiveness, improving the business environment, and raising quality of life standards.
The CPA said it will continue to rely on analytical tools, field monitoring, and coordination with relevant authorities to ensure sustained oversight and promote a culture of compliance across economic sectors.
