Oman’s SQU climbs global ranks, hits 85% job market satisfaction in 2025

Muscat: During a recent media briefing, His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, President of Sultan Qaboos University highlighted that the university recorded progress in 13 key performance indicators, with four others nearing their targets. Among the standout achievements, SQU reported an 85% job market satisfaction rate with its graduates and a 70% accreditation rate for undergraduate programs.

The university also made strides globally, securing the 334th position in the QS World University Rankings 2026, an improvement of 28 places compared to the previous year.

Research and innovation remain central to SQU’s growth. In 2025 alone, the university published 1,851 research papers in peer-reviewed journals, secured 14 patents, and launched seven startups, reinforcing its commitment to transforming research into viable enterprises. Over the past two years, SQU has produced 3,390 research papers and presented 488 at international conferences, while offering 137 research consultations to public and private sector entities, with funding exceeding OMR 3.3 million.

On the academic front, SQU offers 70 undergraduate programs, including emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, digital business, and veterinary medicine. Its postgraduate portfolio includes 123 programs, with seven newly introduced specialisations. The university has produced a total of 74,005 graduates to date, including 66,526 bachelor’s degree holders and 7,479 postgraduate alumni, contributing significantly to Oman’s skilled workforce.

International collaboration has also been a key focus, with 478 students participating in exchange programs across more than 30 countries over the past two years. Additionally, 83 active cooperation agreements and partnerships have strengthened the university’s local and global presence.

In line with sustainability goals, SQU has reduced carbon emissions by approximately 11,500 tonnes annually through a 14.45% cut in energy consumption, resulting in financial savings of around RO 611,000 each year.
