MUSCAT : The data showed that the beverages and tobacco group registered the highest annual increase, rising by 34.7 per cent, reflecting strong price pressures in this category. This was followed by the miscellaneous manufactures group, which rose by 16.1 per cent, while machinery and transport equipment prices increased by 12.1 per cent.
Prices of oils, fats, and vegetable and animal waxes climbed by 7 per cent, while the food and live animals group recorded an increase of 4.8 per cent. Meanwhile, mineral fuels, lubricants, and related materials saw a modest rise of 1 per cent.
In contrast, several categories recorded notable declines on an annual basis. Inedible raw materials excluding fuel fell sharply by 19.2 per cent, followed by chemicals and related substances, which declined by 6 per cent. Prices of manufactured goods classified mainly by material decreased by 5.2 per cent.

On a quarterly basis, compared to the second quarter of 2025, the overall import price index increased by 8.3 per cent. The strongest quarterly rise was seen in non-edible raw materials excluding fuel, up 19.5 per cent, followed by mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials at 12.6 per cent, and beverages and tobacco at 7.6 per cent.
Additionally, food and live animals prices rose by 3.5 per cent, while oils, fats, and vegetable and animal waxes increased by 3.4 per cent. Miscellaneous manufactures recorded a marginal rise of 0.7 per cent.
However, quarterly data showed declines in chemicals and related substances, which fell by 11.9 per cent, followed by manufactured goods classified mainly by material with a decrease of 9.7 per cent, and machinery and transport equipment, which edged down by 1.7 per cent.
