MUSCAT : The State Audit Institution (SAI) highlighted Oman’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations under the Convention, which provides a comprehensive framework for criminalising corruption offences and establishing preventive measures that support accountability and good governance.

Adopted by the League of Arab States in 2010 and entering into force in 2013, the Arab Convention Against Corruption represents the first Arab regional instrument dedicated to strengthening joint efforts to combat corruption. Oman acceded to the Convention in 2014 under Royal Decree No. 28/2014.

The Convention addresses key corruption offences, including bribery in the public and private sectors, abuse of influence, illicit enrichment, embezzlement of public property, and money laundering. It also calls for preventive measures such as reviewing legislation, preventing conflicts of interest, and enhancing transparency and accountability.

Oman’s implementation of the Convention involves coordination among relevant government entities to ensure effective application of its provisions. A national team comprising representatives from nine government bodies has been formed to support this effort and assess progress in implementing the Convention’s requirements.

The State Audit Institution said Oman is also participating in the Convention’s implementation review mechanism, which includes self-assessment and peer review by experts from member states under the supervision of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.

As part of this process, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Kingdom of Morocco were selected to review Oman’s implementation.
