MUSCAT : Oman will establish a national committee and a specialised technical team to oversee the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with India and to follow up on any issues faced by local companies, the minister of commerce said on Tuesday.

His Excellency Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said the mechanism would ensure that the objectives of the agreement are achieved while safeguarding the interests of the domestic private sector.

“The national committee and the technical team will closely monitor progress in implementing the agreement, and if any company is affected, the team will follow up on the matter,” he said.

Al Yousef was speaking during his interaction with the media at a press conference held to discuss the CEPA between the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of India.

The agreement is aimed at expanding bilateral trade and investment, opening new markets for Omani exports and strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries, while providing tools for authorities to address any challenges that may arise during its implementation.
