Muscat – The initiative, carried out in agricultural greenhouses at the centre, involves the cultivation of a variety of vegetables, including eggplant, cucumber, beetroot, onions, tomatoes, peppers, and leafy greens such as watercress and parsley. These efforts not only provide hands-on training in agriculture but also offer a source of income and self-reliance for the participants.

To further maximize the value of the harvest, students at the centre are also producing pickles and other processed goods from the crops grown in the centre’s fields, creating a diverse range of products that have been well-received by local customers.
Mahra bint Salem Al Saadi, Director of the Association for Children with Disabilities in Dhank, explained that the project is part of the centre’s broader rehabilitation programme aimed at preparing children with disabilities for integration into society.
She added that the idea began eight years ago, when students were first taught to tend to the plants surrounding the centre. Encouraged by its success and the enthusiastic response of the students, the initiative evolved into a full-scale greenhouse project.
It’s worth noting that rehabilitation programs for people with disabilities seek to engage them in various community activities and fields, enabling them to integrate into normal life with various segments of society and become active individuals, on a par with other citizens of the country.
