MUSCAT: Muscat Municipality said the Al Ansab-Cement Factory-Al Jafnayn dual carriageway project has reached 90.17% completion, as work advances on one of the capital’s major road infrastructure developments.

The project stretches about 15 kilometres from Falaj Al Sham in Bawshar to the intersection with the Al Rusayl-Bidbid road at Al Jafnayn in Seeb.

The upgraded route will have three lanes in each direction, increasing road capacity and improving traffic movement between Bawshar and Seeb, the municipality said.

A major component of the project involves converting three roundabouts along Al Ansab Street, between Muscat Expressway and Falaj Al Sham, into multi-level interchanges incorporating bridges and tunnels.

Four new intersections are also being built at Al Awabi, the Cement Factory, the entrance to Misfah Industrial Area and Al Jafnayn.

The development includes upgrades to service roads running alongside the main carriageway, as well as surface-water drainage channels and other protection works designed to improve the road’s resilience during adverse weather conditions.

Muscat Municipality said the project was developed following traffic, geological and hydrological studies as well as topographical surveys, taking into account existing traffic demand and future urban expansion.

Once completed, the road is expected to shorten journey times and improve connectivity between the wilayats of Bawshar and Seeb, while providing better access to residential, industrial and service areas.

The municipality said the project would also strengthen transport and logistics links and support economic, investment and urban development along the corridor as Muscat Governorate continues to expand.
