Indian School Al Ghubra successfully hosts Model United Nations 2019

Muscat: The 4th Edition of the Model United Nations was held in Indian School Al Ghubra from 5th to 7th December 2019. The theme of this year’s MUN was ‘Leave a Legacy For People And The Planet.’ With the participation of 12 schools from across the world and more than 300 student delegates, MUN was a resounding success wherein resolutions were passed to create a positive difference to several global issues plaguing the world. 

The MUN inaugurated by Mrs. Fatma Bint Abdul Abbas Noorani, Advisor – Ministry of Education, Sultanate of Oman witnessed the venerable presence of Mr. Ahmed Rayees, President, Indian School Al Ghubra, Mr. Sunil K.A, Convenor, School Management Committee, Indian School Al Ghubra and other dignitaries. 

Spearheaded by the Secretary General, Nitu Andrews and the Director General, Mohammad Khuroo along with the bureau members of the eight committees namely, Security Council, International Monetary Fund, DISEC, SPECPOL, UNICEF, SOCHUM, ECOFIN and PRESS CORPS saw the smooth conduct of the MUN.  The Committee sessions held during the first two days witnessed general debates where the delegates exchanged the views of their respective countries. Concerns of the various representatives were shared and the organizations like the UNHCR came up with suitable solutions. In the informal consultations, a plethora of sub-topics were put forward by the delegates like prevention of human trafficking, economic insecurities of refugees, measures for improving imports, methods to recover from global recession, how to escape external debts and many more. As the sessions were in progress, interviews were conducted by the enterprising Press Corps Committee with the dignitaries and leaders from the participating schools. The final day saw the deliberations of the committees wherein they successfully passed their final resolutions. With the final session adjourned, the bureaus carefully evaluated their delegates’ performance. 

The Valedictory Function presided over by His Excellency Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, Shri Munu Mahawar was also graced by the august presence of Her Excellency Ambassador of Turkey to the Sultanate of Oman, Ms. Ayse Sozen Usluer. The leaders distributed the awards namely the Best Position Paper Award, Diplomacy Award and the Outstanding Diplomacy Award to the successful delegates of the various committees. Shri Mahawar praised the efforts of the MUN in molding future leaders and exhorted the delegates by stating that perhaps in the future one of them might represent India at the UN.

The participants bid adieu to each other hoping to meet again at the next MUN session to be held at Kozhikode in April 2020, for further fruitful and interactive deliberations.
