MUSCAT : The Court of First Instance in Mussanah convicted the company and imposed a fine of RO 600.
The case unfolded when the Consumer Protection Department in the South Al Batinah Governorate, located in Rustaq, received a complaint from a consumer. The complainant alleged that they had engaged with a furniture detailing company to manufacture a bedroom set with its accessories for an agreed-upon sum of RO 1,000. The agreement stipulated completion within a month and a half. However, the establishment failed to fulfill its obligations within the specified timeframe, prompting the consumer to escalate the matter to the administration.
Investigation revealed that the company’s representatives had not adhered to the terms of service outlined in the agreement, nor had they honoured the service guarantee, as mandated by the Consumer Protection Law. Consequently, the case was referred to the competent court for further action.
In its ruling, the court found the organization’s representatives guilty of the misdemeanors of improper service provision and failure to guarantee the services offered to the consumer. As a penalty, they were fined RO 600 and were ordered to cover the expenses associated with the public lawsuit.
