MUSCAT : In a public awareness advisory, Oman Customs underscored the key conditions governing customs duty exemptions for travellers’ personal baggage and gifts, as well as the applicable limits and eligibility requirements.
The advisory outlines the provisions of Article 19 of the Executive Regulations of the Unified Customs Law of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), as amended under Resolution No. 110/2026, which sets the conditions for customs duty exemptions on personal belongings and gifts carried by travellers.
The amendments state that the total value of personal belongings and gifts eligible for exemption must not exceed RO 300.
The authority also said the traveller must not be a frequent visitor to customs checkpoints or a trader dealing in the items being carried.
To qualify for duty-free entry, personal belongings and gifts must be for personal use only and carried in non-commercial quantities.
The exemption for tobacco products is limited to a maximum of 200 cigarettes per traveller.
