MUSCAT : In an awareness message, the ministry said domestic violence may result in a range of psychological consequences, including persistent anxiety and tension, sadness and depression, fear and a lack of security, low self-confidence and self-esteem, social isolation, and difficulties in communicating with others.
Victims may also experience sleep disturbances, concentration problems, emotional outbursts, nervousness, and a decline in academic performance, according to the ministry.
The ministry pointed out that recovery is possible and encouraged those affected to seek support from family members or trusted individuals and make use of available health and support services.
It also urged victims to speak with mental health professionals and social workers and to seek help when needed, stressing the importance of breaking the silence surrounding domestic violence.
“Domestic violence does not only leave a visible mark; it can also leave unseen psychological wounds,” the ministry said, highlighting the role of support, care, and professional assistance in the recovery process.
