MUSCAT : The municipality said applying approved health standards across laundry facilities supports service safety, enhances hygiene practices and contributes to maintaining public confidence in the sector.

As part of its awareness efforts, Muscat Municipality outlined a series of mandatory health and operational requirements for operating laundry services to protect public health and ensure a safe working environment for both employees and customers.

According to the municipality, laundry facilities must be established on land designated for commercial, mixed-use or industrial purposes. Operators are also required to provide clean white uniforms for staff and ensure adequate interior space to facilitate smooth movement and workflow.

The regulations further require safe technical installations for electricity, water and steam systems, along with the use of automated washing and drying machines to maintain operational efficiency and hygiene standards.

Muscat Municipality added that facilities must include sanitary drainage systems resistant to rust and chemicals, hygienic and safe internal finishes, and access to water that complies with potable water standards.

The authority also stressed the importance of supplying hot water and replacing it at every stage of the washing process to ensure effective sanitation and customer safety.
