MUSCAT – A physics teacher, Al Farsi has gone beyond traditional teaching methods, using her passion for scientific research to inspire innovation among her students and transform school laboratories into platforms for developing future-focused projects.
She said: “My role as a teacher does not end with explaining scientific laws; it begins with turning every challenge into an opportunity for innovation. We do not just create projects — we cultivate minds that believe the impossible is simply an equation not yet solved.”
Al Farsi said her interest in physics began during her university studies, where she viewed the subject as a key to understanding the mysteries of the universe. She later channelled this passion into education, mentoring students and supporting national innovation projects as both a guide and supervisor.
Early in her teaching career, she led her students to first place at the national level in the biological and environmental sciences category of the ‘National Olympiad for Scientific Innovations, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence’ for the 2023–2024 academic year. The winning project focused on converting plastic waste into oxygen-deficient graphene for use in capacitor manufacturing.
Her achievements extended internationally when she and her students represented the Sultanate of Oman in the Sheikha Fadia al Saad al Sabah Scientific Research and Projects Competition during 2023–2024. The participation marked a significant milestone, where she helped strengthen students’ scientific research skills and their ability to translate ideas into practical applications.
In another achievement, Al Farsi supervised a project that won second place nationally in the engineering and energy sciences category of the 2025–2026 National Olympiad for Scientific Innovations, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. The project focused on converting biological waste, such as shrimp shells, and electronic waste, including printer ink, into an environmentally friendly smart battery. She acknowledged the support of the Innovation and Scientific Olympiad Department at the Ministry of Education in achieving this success.
Looking ahead, Al-Farsi is preparing to supervise and train her students for participation in the International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX) in Kuala Lumpur, scheduled from May 17 to 20, 2026.
She said she believes the role of a teacher extends beyond instruction, serving instead as a bridge that enables young minds to engage with global innovation and scientific exchange.
