MUSCAT: Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has issued a public warning against fraudulent calls and suspicious links impersonating government institutions, urging residents not to share personal or banking information through unsolicited messages.
In a social media awareness campaign, the central bank cautioned that official institutions “will not ask for your personal information via unsolicited links,” highlighting the growing risks of phishing and online financial fraud.
The campaign illustrated how scammers pose as government officials and persuade victims to click malicious links and update personal details, which can lead to bank accounts being emptied within seconds.

“One moment of trust is enough for a fraudster,” the campaign warned, advising the public not to trust individuals claiming to represent government entities through unverified calls, messages or websites.
The central bank urged customers to verify communications only through official channels and avoid sharing confidential information such as banking passwords, OTPs and card details.
