MUSCAT : The annual meteor shower, known for its brightness and high speed, is active from April 19 to May 28 and is caused by debris left behind by Halley’s Comet. During peak activity, observers can expect an ideal rate of up to 50 meteors per hour under optimal conditions.
The meteors travel at speeds of approximately 65 kilometres per second and appear to radiate from a point near the Aquarius constellation, making early morning hours the best time for viewing.
Astronomy experts recommend observing the shower after midnight, when the radiant point rises higher in the sky, improving visibility.
However, this year’s viewing conditions may be partially affected by moonlight, as the waning gibbous moon will be about 85 percent illuminated, potentially obscuring fainter meteors.
