Commenting on the achievement, Qais bin Saud Al Zakwani, CEO of Nama Water Services Company, described the hosting as a “qualitative turning point” for the sector. He noted that it highlights the growing global recognition of Oman’s expertise in managing water loss efficiently and sustainably.
Al Zakwani added that the conference will serve as a strategic platform to strengthen international partnerships, enhance knowledge exchange, and showcase the company’s progress in reducing water loss through advanced digital solutions and smarter operational models. He emphasised that the initiative aligns closely with the goals of Oman Vision 2040, supporting a more efficient and sustainable water future.
Nama Water Services has implemented an integrated system based on predictive analytics and full digitisation, enabling real-time monitoring of water networks and early leak detection. This approach has significantly reduced water loss from approximately 48 per cent to less than 33 per cent by the end of 2025, with a target of reaching 30 per cent in the current year.
The improvements have translated into tangible economic and developmental gains, including financial savings exceeding OMR 35 million, equivalent to funding water infrastructure projects serving around 100,000 people, while also reducing operational costs by about 26 per cent.
The company has also undertaken extensive infrastructure upgrades, established advanced control centres, and invested in building local expertise by training Omani professionals and collaborating with global specialists. Additionally, performance-based contracts with operation and maintenance companies have enhanced efficiency by linking outcomes to measurable performance indicators.
Oman’s water sector has seen significant investment growth, with ongoing projects exceeding OMR 1 billion and contributing to a local added value of RO 64 million, further strengthening the national economy and sector sustainability.
The hosting of the 2028 conference comes at a time of increasing global focus on water security and sustainability, amid rising challenges linked to climate change and resource demand. International forums such as this, alongside platforms like the World Water Forum, are becoming critical for driving collaboration and innovation.
