MUSCAT – The Ministry stated that the voluntary recall of several batches of Danone products has been initiated in close coordination with the company, as a precautionary measure following recent scientific developments.
The recall addresses the potential presence of cereulide, a substance produced by Bacillus cereus, in line with the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) opinion issued on February 2, 2026, which established an acute reference dose (ARM) for infants.
The Ministry clarified that the recall is purely precautionary and does not indicate any confirmed health risks to consumers. Danone has already begun withdrawing the affected batches from the market and is implementing technical corrections in coordination with the Ministry.
EFSA welcomed Danone’s prompt response, noting that these internationally recognized regulatory procedures strengthen scientific confidence and uphold the highest standards of food safety. The Ministry confirmed that all necessary measures have been taken to remove the affected products from the Omani market and that authorities are closely monitoring the recall to ensure public safety.
