MUSCAT : Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Saturday issued a multi-day weather alert warning of unsettled conditions across several governorates, including the risk of heavy rain at times, flash floods in wadis and valleys, and strong northerly winds, from Dec. 13 to Dec. 20.
In its first weather advisory for the period, issued at 3:15 p.m. local time, the CAA said the Sultanate is expected to be affected by a low-pressure system, bringing intermittent rainfall of varying intensity over different regions.
According to the forecast, cloud formations and scattered rain are expected to affect Musandam governorate from Saturday evening, with rainfall occasionally heavy, ranging between 5 and 10 millimetres. Northerly to northwesterly winds are forecast to blow at moderate to active speeds, reaching 10 to 25 knots.

On Sunday and Monday (Dec. 14–15), the authority said cloud activity will continue over Musandam, with a chance of scattered rain that could be heavy at times, with accumulations ranging between 10 and 25 millimetres. The impact is also expected to extend to Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah and South Al Batinah governorates, where scattered rainfall of 5 to 15 millimetres may occur at times.
The CAA warned of a potential flow of wadis and valleys during this period, alongside continued active northerly to northwesterly winds, with speeds ranging from 10 to 30 knots.
From Tuesday to Thursday (Dec. 16–18), the authority forecast continued cloud development and scattered rainfall, which may be heavy at times, over Musandam, Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah and South Al Batinah. The risk of wadi and valley runoff remains during this phase, accompanied by active northerly winds.
The unsettled weather is expected to persist from Friday to Saturday (Dec. 19–20), with cloud cover and scattered rainfall occasionally affecting most northern governorates of the Sultanate. The authority again highlighted the possibility of wadi and valley flows and strong northerly winds during this period.
The Civil Aviation Authority urged residents and motorists to exercise caution during rainfall, avoid crossing wadis, ensure reduced visibility conditions are considered while driving, and monitor official weather bulletins and marine warnings, particularly before heading to sea.
The advisory was issued by the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre under the Civil Aviation Authority.
