MUSCAT : The project spans approximately 86 kilometres and carries a total cost of about RO 9.5 million.
The ministry said the project aligns with its efforts to enhance the road network and support tourism, economic and social development across Dhofar’s wilayats. It also aims to facilitate transport and services within the Najd agricultural region.

Engineer Saeed bin Mohammed Tabouk, Director General of the Directorate General of Roads and Land Transport in Dhofar Governorate, told the Oman News Agency that the road is a vital project that will improve traffic flow and serve the many farms in the region. He added that it will support comprehensive development and enhance connectivity between population centres.

He further explained that the 85.75-kilometre route crosses a flat terrain, linking Al Shasar with Baithnah and extending to the Al Hashman area. The new road is expected to reduce travel time, stimulate economic, tourism and social activity, and enhance road safety.
The project consists of two main sections: the first, from Al Shasar to Baithnah, covers 45.35 kilometres; the second, from Baithnah to Al Hashman, spans 40.40 kilometres. The implementation period is 24 months, with completion scheduled for October 2027.
According to Tabouk, the road is being built to high technical specifications, including a two-lane carriageway with a 7-metre width, 0.5-metre asphalt shoulders on both sides, and 1.5-metre earth shoulders. The project also includes rainwater drainage structures, side protections, concrete barriers and directional signage.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology confirmed that the project is being executed in line with advanced engineering standards, supporting the development of a safe and efficient national road network. It added that the initiative contributes to the goals of Oman Vision 2040, particularly in strengthening infrastructure and advancing a sustainable transport system.
