MUSCAT : In a statement, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources called on fishermen, fishing vessel operators and sea-goers to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety while at sea and to remain attentive to updates issued by relevant authorities.
The advisory follows a separate alert from the Maritime Security Centre, which cautioned mariners — particularly those travelling long distances away from Omani shores — against relying solely on GPS navigation.
Officials said navigation systems could be affected by signal interference, weakening or temporary loss of satellite connectivity, which may lead to navigation challenges in open waters.
The centre advised fishermen and other maritime users not to venture far from the coast without having alternative navigation tools available.
“As a precaution, sea-goers should carry a traditional navigational compass and be prepared to use it when necessary,” the advisory noted.
