MUSCAT : The missions are part of the ministry’s efforts to protect Omani heritage, document historical evidence spanning thousands of years, and enhance Oman’s position as a regional hub for archaeological research.
This year’s season includes survey and exploration projects, laboratory analyses, 3D documentation, and field training programs designed to strengthen the skills of national archaeological cadres.

As part of the season’s activities, an Italian scientific mission from Sapienza University has begun excavations at archaeological sites in the wilayats of Nakhl and Wadi Al Ma’awil. The mission has uncovered sites dating back to the third and first millennia BC, and has conducted surveys recording more than 77 archaeological remains. These findings highlight the historical significance of the region and the continuity of human activity during the Bronze and Iron Ages.
An exhibition is planned at the conclusion of the season to display the discovered artifacts and raise awareness of their cultural and historical importance, contributing to a deeper understanding of Oman’s rich heritage.
