MUSCAT : The Oman Society for Astronomy and Space (OSAS) has successfully observed and photographed the rare Comet Swan (C/2025 R2 SWAN) as it passed through the skies of the Sultanate, making it one of the most remarkable astronomical sightings of the final quarter of 2025.
Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Vice Chairman of OSAS, said the sighting is part of ongoing efforts to document significant astronomical events visible from Oman. He noted that Comet Swan originates from the distant outer regions of the solar system and follows an extremely long orbital path.
“This comet has an orbital period exceeding 20,000 years, making its appearance a unique event that will not occur again for thousands of years,” Al Mahrouqi confirmed.
