MUSCAT : The agreement was signed by His Excellency Eng. Ibrahim bin Saeed Al Kharousi, Undersecretary for Heritage at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and Abdul Hamid bin Abdul Rahman Al Kharousi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Al Awabi Fort Foundation.
The initiative aims to maximise the economic and cultural value of Omani heritage landmarks and enhance their role in supporting sustainable tourism development. Al Awabi Fort is considered one of the most prominent historical and architectural landmarks in South Al Batinah Governorate, recognized for its significant cultural and heritage importance.

The project is expected to stimulate tourism activity by attracting visitors from within and outside the Sultanate, while also promoting greater private sector involvement in managing and operating heritage sites.
Additionally, the project will create new investment opportunities in tourism, culture, entertainment, and handicrafts, providing both direct and indirect employment for local communities.
Once operational under modern management standards, the fort is expected to make a notable contribution to the national economy, boosting tourism spending, supporting entrepreneurship in hospitality and related services, and strengthening Al Awabi’s position as a key cultural and tourist destination in Oman.
