Stage set for 2nd Themar Islamic Banking Conference in Muscat

Final preparations are in place as The Arabian Stories (TAS) gears up to host the highly anticipated second edition of the Themar Islamic Banking Conference 2025 on Sunday, September 28, at InterCity Hotel in Muscat.

MUSCAT : The event, to be held under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sayyid Numair bin Salim Al Said, promises to bring together leading voices in Islamic finance under the theme ‘Islamic Financial Transactions and Economic Stability’.

Organised to highlight the growing role of Sharia-compliant financial systems in promoting economic resilience, the conference is powered by Bank Nizwa, with Meethaq Islamic Banking and Ahli Islamic partnering as main sponsors, and Credit Oman as supporting partner.

The event will bring together banking leaders, financial experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss key trends, challenges, and innovations shaping the Islamic finance landscape in Oman and beyond.

The day will begin at 8:30 am with registration, followed by an official opening ceremony and the playing of the Sultanate’s national anthem. An introductory film highlighting the theme will be screened at 9:05 am, setting the tone for the discussions to follow.

Omair bin Mohammed Al Julandani, Business Development Manager at TAS, will deliver the welcome address, paving the way for a keynote speech by Khalid Jamal Al Kayed, CEO of Bank Nizwa, followed by a main presentation from Ali bin Ahmed Al Lawati, Assistant General Manager of Meethaq Corporate Banking, and a featured working paper by Nora Sabah Sultan, Assistant General Manager and Head of Retail Banking at Al Ahli Islamic Bank.

The conference agenda will also include two pivotal panel discussions. The first panel, titled ‘Open Banking and Digital Transformation Shaping the Future of Islamic Finance’, will explore how technology is influencing the sector.

To be moderated by Ahmed Hamdan Al Farsi, the panel will feature Mohammed Bin Hamed Al Hashmi, Chief Compliance Officer of Bank Nizwa; Zainab Mustafa Al Lawati, Assistant General Manager – Head of Corporate Banking at Ahli Islamic; Issa Al Suqri, Sharia Compliance Unit – Head Meethaq Islamic Banking; and Sheikh Khalil Bin Ahmed Al-Harthy, CEO of Credit Oman.

The second will be a discourse on ‘Maximising Sustainable Impact Through Waqf Funds and Islamic Takaful’ with panellists Ahmed Al Harthy, Director-Department of Endowments and Bayt Al Mal at Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs; Hamza Al Saadi, AGM – Head of Governance & Board Secretary at Takaful Oman; Sheikh Issa Al Harthy, Senior Associate-Public Markets at Oman National Investments Development Company; and Dr. Ali Al Jahdhami, Sharia Supervisor Board Member of Bank Nizwa; alongside panel moderator Salim Saif Al Abdali, writer and economic analyst.

The conference will also include a sponsor recognition ceremony, followed by the prestigious ‘Themar Islamic Banking Excellence Awards’ which will celebrate innovation and excellence in the sector.

A networking lunch and closing session will wrap up the event.
