Oman’s population grows by over 100,000 in one year

The Sultanate of Oman has seen its population increase by more than 100,000 people over the past year, according to data from the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

MUSCAT : As of Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the total population reached 5,327,347. This marks an increase of 106,566 people compared to the same date in 2024, when the population stood at 5,220,781.

The growth was distributed relatively evenly between Omani nationals and expatriates. The Omani population grew by approximately 54,915, reaching a total of 3,020,307. Meanwhile, the expatriate population saw an increase of about 51,651, bringing their total to 2,307,040. The figures show a slight trend of higher growth among citizens.

As per the key demographic indicators, live births among Omanis totalled 5,322 in July 2025, showing a slight increase from 5,040 in June of the same year. The gender distribution of Omani births in July was balanced, with 2,759 males and 2,563 females. However, Omani births significantly outpaced expatriate births, which numbered 557 in July 2025.

Mortality statistics for July 2025 show a slight decline in deaths among Omani citizens, with 624 deaths recorded, down from 632 in June and 685 in May. From January to July 2025, the total number of Omani deaths reached 4,471; expatriate deaths totalled 163 in July 2025, contributing to a total of 1,119 for the year up to that point.
