MADRID — His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik was hosted on Tuesday evening by Their Majesties King Felipe VI of Spain and Queen Letizia at an official state banquet held at the Royal Palace in Madrid, as part of His Majesty’s historic state visit to the Kingdom of Spain.
During the banquet, King Felipe VI welcomed His Majesty the Sultan and his accompanying delegation, expressing confidence that the visit would deepen relations between the two friendly nations and advance shared interests for the prosperity of both peoples.
In his address, His Majesty Sultan Haitham underscored the longstanding bonds linking Oman and Spain, noting that the relationship is rooted in centuries of cultural interaction and mutual respect.

“Dialogue and openness to cultures and civilizations is the only path toward building a world of greater understanding, stability, and cooperation,” His Majesty declared.
“Spain has throughout its history been a shining example of openness and a destination for scholars, thinkers, and artists from across the world, serving as a beacon of knowledge that has contributed to shaping human civilization.”
His Majesty emphasised that Omani-Spanish relations are built on shared values and constructive cooperation across political, economic, trade, and cultural fields — ties that have accelerated in recent years in support of both nations’ development aspirations.
He noted that the visit represents a “historic opportunity” to celebrate and advance the strategic partnership, adding that several Omani ministers accompanying the delegation are exploring new avenues of cooperation and investment with their Spanish counterparts.
His Majesty also expressed appreciation for Spain’s role on the international stage, praising the country’s efforts in supporting peace, dialogue, and global understanding.
In conclusion, His Majesty extended his gratitude for the generous hospitality and reaffirmed Oman’s readiness to welcome Spanish leadership to Muscat to continue strengthening bilateral ties.
